About Dr. Rental Housing

Dr. Rental Housing isn’t a medical doctor — he’s the one diagnosing what’s really wrong with Oakland, Alameda County, and California’s housing policies. Through clear analysis and real-world stories, Dr. Rental Housing explains how rent control and tenant protection laws, while well-intentioned, often backfire — shrinking housing supply, driving up costs, and hurting both renters and housing providers.

Behind the name is Chris Moore, Board Member and Treasurer of the East Bay Rental Housing Association. Chris has decades of experience providing affordable housing to the Oakland community and advocating for fair, balanced housing policy. He also successfully led the recall of former Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price and assisted in the recall of former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, who was later indicted by the FBI. Chris spearheaded these efforts to protect his renter clients and neighbors, who no longer felt safe in their communities under failed leadership.

With this series, he’s taking readers behind the curtain to expose the unintended consequences of housing laws and spark an honest conversation about what really works.

Follow Dr. Rental Housing for a no-nonsense, straight-talk diagnosis of California’s toughest housing challenges — and ideas for a healthier future.
